Microsoft® Visual Studio Overview
Microsoft® Visual Studio is the world's most powerful, comprehensive, and integrated suite of developer tools for rapidly building enterprise Web applications on the Windows® platform based on the Windows DNA architecture. Visual Studio addresses all aspects of Windows DNA application development, including integrated tools for multi-tier application design, user interface development, middle-tier component development and assembly, database programming and design, performance analysis, and team-based development support. Visual Studio allows developers to choose the programming language they already know (including C++, Basic, Java, or FoxPro) and to choose a language that best suits the technical requirements of a specific component of the application. In addition, because all tools in the suite support the Component Object Model (COM), a component created in any language can be reused by any other tool in the suite. Developers can use Visual Studio to take full advantage of XML. The technical articles and code samples show how to use Visual Studio and the Microsoft XML parser to read and write XML documents. The Duwamish Books sample is a Windows DNA application built with Visual Studio and leveraging XML for data exchange. The BizTalk™ JumpStart Kit shows how to generate Visual Studio middle-tier components based on an XML schema. The Visual Studio Interoperability Center
