Summary

The purpose of this step-by-step guide was to illustrate the basic steps involved in designing and building Windows DNA applications using the "Executants and Emissaries" methodology, by building the DNA PurchaseOrder application. However, building the DNA PurchaseOrder application is just the beginning. Developers are encouraged to use the DNA PurchaseOrder application to explore some of the more advanced aspects of Windows DNA application design and development, such as:

  • Using MSMQ for increased reliability, availability, scalability, off-line support, and interoperability with message queuing systems on other platforms.

  • Using Microsoft Cluster Server (MSCS) for increased availability.

  • Using XML to share information with other applications.

  • Using DCOM to access application on Unix and MVS.

  • Using COM Transaction Integrator (COMTI) to execute Customer Information Control Systems (CICS) (LU 6.2) or Information Management Systems (IMS) transactions on MVS systems.
